The roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber are staples of Saturday nights in Northeast Ohio, but the future of one of the region’s most historic venues hangs in a delicate balance. Painesville Speedway has officially announced the “Save Our Track” initiative, a heartfelt call to arms for the racing community to secure the facility’s legacy through 2026 and far beyond.

The Raw Truth: A Tight Finish for the 2026 Season
Running a short track in the modern era is a high-stakes race against rising costs. Management at Painesville Speedway has been transparent about the financial hurdles, citing the need for essential safety upgrades, facility improvements, and the maintenance of a quality racing surface.
While the track has already restructured divisions and modified rules to lower the financial burden on drivers, the “income versus outgoing” math remains tight. To ensure the track doesn’t become another “lost” historic oval, the “Save Our Track” campaign seeks to bridge the gap between mere survival and long-term security.
2026 Payouts: Cash in Hand
One of the most significant changes for the 2026 season is the commitment to immediate cash payouts. Management confirmed that winnings will be paid in cash at the end of every race night—no delays and no excuses.
The estimated purse for the season currently sits at a healthy $70,000. The starting payouts for the 2026 season are structured as follows:
| Division | 1st Place | 2nd Place | 3rd Place | 4th Place | Start |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Figure 8 (F8) & Street Stocks (SS) | $300 | $150 | $100 | $75 | $50 |
| Compacts | $200 | $100 | $75 | $50 | $25 |
| Old School (OS) | $100 | $75 | $50 | — | — |
Additionally, the track is keeping the fan-favorite King’s Ransom bonus nights on the schedule and is evaluating a potential boost to the end-of-season points fund as revenue allows.

A Call to the Racing Family
The “Save Our Track” initiative includes a unique, voluntary request: Management is asking drivers and owners to consider donating a portion of their winnings back to the track. > “This isn’t mandatory—it’s a heartfelt call to the racing family that has always stepped up when it mattered most,” the announcement stated.
Every dollar raised through these donations is earmarked for one goal: buying and protecting the historic asphalt oval for good. The objective is to eliminate the yearly uncertainty and lock in racing through 2028 and the decades to follow.

More Than Just a Race
For the Northeast Ohio community, Painesville Speedway is more than just a sports venue; it is a proving ground for future stars and a multi-generational gathering spot. Many volunteers have already spent the pre-season sharing their time and skills to get the facility ready for the 2026 opener.
As the lights prepare to turn on for another season, the message from the speedway is clear: By standing together now, the community isn’t just saving a track—they are preserving a legacy for their children and grandchildren.
Who’s with them? Join the movement, head to the grandstands, or donate to the “Save Our Track” initiative to keep the thunder rolling at Painesville.
