The Fast Dash, usually a four-car, four-lap battle for the four fastest qualifiers to start the racing program off on a fast note has all but disappeared from local tracks in recent years.
Making the “Fast Dash” was an accomplishment, only the fastest four drivers qualified for it, and many nights the dashes were the closest battles for the win Fans were treated to seeing who the fastest of the fast were and an preview of what the night’s racing would look like.
Recently, there have been no Dashes, with the exception of the Ohio Wheelman Series at Lorain Raceway Park’s Halloween Festival of Speed Cavalcade in September. So we have an idea to bring them back.
One class each night should participate in the “Fast Dash”—the fastest four cars for four laps. Winner takes a small prize, and gets an early chance to go to Victory Lane and get photos taken with a trophy. Fans get an exciting, yet quick, race to kick off the program. Tracks could rotate the Dash class each week or choose the class with the most cars to participate in the Fast Dash.
