Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ben Rhodes will trade his #99 Ford F-150 for the day on Saturday, June 14th and return to Sandusky Speedway to compete in the racing program that night. Rhodes, a two time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion and weekly contender on that circuit won’t take the off weekend for the Truck Series, which comes after a six race stretch, but will double down and compete in both the Modifieds and Ohio Pro Compacts at Sandusky Speedway.
The 2021 & 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion is no stranger to Sandusky, he raced at the half-mile in 2024 with the National Compact Touring Series, winning his heat race and suffering a mechanical failure that took him out of the feature event. Rhodes also competes in the Craftsman Truck Series for Sandusky based ThorSport Racing, located literally across the street from the race track. Rhodes, a Lexington, Kentucky native has raced in the Craftsman Truck Series since 2016 and has collected seven race wins during his career that includes two Championships.
Rhodes and Sandusky seem like a perfect fit, his Crew Chief in the Craftsman Truck Series is Sandusky Speedway Race Director Rich Lushes, together the two have won two championships and multiple races. Rhodes also calls the paperclip shaped .522 mile Martinsville Speedway his favorite track on the NASCAR schedule, Sandusky is often referred to as paperclip shaped oval and measures just a tiny bit shorter at.a half-mile, both tracks have similar banking in the turns.
“I am so excited to be going back to Sandusky June 14th and looking forward to competing in the Modified and Ohio Pro Compact cars” Ben Rhodes said. “I am grateful to both team for allowing me to take the wheel of their cars and want to thank Kevin Jaycox and his staff at Sandusky Speedway for having me” Rhodes continued.
“We are beyond excited for the return of 2 time Nascar Truck series Champion Ben Rhodes come race with us” said Kevin Jaycox, owner of Sandusky Speedway. “Ben raced last year and was one of the most personable people I have ever met. He was very interactive with the fans and competitors. I love watching our drivers compete against one of the best drivers in the truck series. This being our 75th anniversary we are planning a lot of events to celebrate our historic facility and adding Ben is a huge deal for us” continued Jaycox.
In addition to the Ohio Pro Compacts and Modifieds that Rhodes will compete in; Sandusky Speedway will also play host to the Grand Nationals, Factory Stocks and Warriors as part of the event on June 14th.
Sandusky Speedway, located at 614 Perkins Ave in Perkins Township, OH is a half-mile short track rich in racing heritage.
