(SOUTH AMHERST, OH) The second edition of the Jackpot Nationals at The County is now in the books and when the dust settled, the second edition might be the best yet.

Friday’s program kicked off the Jackpot Nationals Weekend with 40 Modifieds in the pit area Friday afternoon, the 2-day event started with Sliman’s of Amherst Modified Qualifying just after a brief rain shower hit the track.  With cooler temperatures that all day Inaugural Jackpot Nationals at The County winner Spencer Stineman set fast time with a lap of 15.182 seconds.  Terry Groner, Jonathan Gatton, Bryce Allensworth, and Zack Miller picked up Heat Race wins and punched their ticket to the $7500 to Win Jackpot Nationals Feature event. Parker Ennes and Nathan Embree won the Duel Races.

44 Compacts were also on hand to try their luck with the Jackpot.  Sheldon Sommers took top honors in qualifying with a lap of 16.486 seconds. Tim Kalp, Alex Coursen, LJ Stanley, and Seth Yehl won the four heat races punching their ticket to the $2500 to win Compact Jackpot.  Erik Johnson and Zach Myers won the Compact Duels.

The Perfection Fabricators Grand Nationals joined the Friday portion of the event and it was Will Yuravak taking the Feature Win over Joe Pugh.  Dan Smith (3rd), Brenton Beal (4th) and Aaron White (5th) completed the top five Brenton Beal and Joe Pugh scored heat race victories.

The Factory Stocks completed the Friday portion of the Jackpot Nationals, Ernest Phillips was able to complete the clean sweep of the night, taking the fast qualifier award, winning the heat and taking the Feature win. Tim Jayes (2nd), Roy Lowe (3rd), Shawn Bubsey (4th) and Veronica Jayes (5th) completed the top five.

Saturday brought a much warmer day, and a full night of racing with the late addition of the Perfection Fabricators Grand Nationals to the program.  The Sliman’s Modifieds and Compacts would run a Features only program featuring the A and B Mains.

Chase Wiggins was able to hit the Jackpot first, winning the action packed Perfection Fabricators Grand National Feature event over Dan Smith (2nd), Trent Aslaksen (3rd), Brenton Beal (4th) and Josh Ansell (5th).  Wiggins and Rich Dewitt, Jr scored the Heat Race victories.

The main event, The Jackpot Nationals At The County 75 lap $7,500 to win feature event was next.  Initially Colt Locker raced his easy into the Jackpot Nationals but was disqualified in technical inspection following the B-Main, second place finisher John Gatton, Jr. was then moved to the A-Main.  With a field of 25 set, Parker Ennes and Nathan Embree, by way of their Duel Wins Friday night were set to lead the field to green.  Ennes and Embree battled for the lead but ultimately Jordan Gatton took the lead away.  Gatton held onto the lead for nearly half of the race.  As the race neared the 2/3rd mark, Matt Dimit, who had raced through the field from the 12th starting position to second.  Dimit tried high and low, but Gatton held on to the lead.  Dimit committed to the top groove and made the pass stick on Gatton on lap 48.  From there Dimit drove away through a clean finish to the race.  As the laps wound down, Dimit extended his lead to over 2 seconds as Gatton dropped back and other contenders emerged.  When the checkered flag flew, Dimit had a 2.8 second lead over second place Brian Nester, who battled from the 13th starting position.  Defending Jackpot Winner Spencer Stineman finished third, Jordan Gatton held on to fourth with Nick Clemons completing the top five finishers.

Brandon Weigel scored the Compact Jackpot Feature win after watching two leaders go up in clouds of smoke.  Both Justin Phillips and Zach Myers appeared to be on their way to victory in the 50 lap Compact A-Main before Phillips broke an axle and Myers lost an engine.  Following Weigel across the finish line were second place Matt Elsey, Sr., who started 24th, Ben Watson (3rd) after a late race trip over the turn 3 hill, Vinny Cicconetti (4th) and Hayden Nails (5th) completed the top five.  Richie Gregory scored the B-Main victory and started at the tail of the 50 lap Compact Jackpot A-Main.

Lorain Raceway Park is back in action Saturday, July 5th with the Ohio Wheelman Series taking to the ⅜ mile.  The Perfection Fabricators Grand Nationals and Factory Stocks will complete the program with a Juicebox race at intermission.
