(PAINESVILLE, OH) On a brisk December day, two weeks postponed from the original schedule date, The Painesville Speedway roared to life for the final time in 2024 with the Annual Turkey Leg 150 Enduro.
Fifty-three cars were on hand for the 150 lap enduro at “The Battleground” which began with the ground completely covered in snow including the 1/5th mile kidney bean shaped course used for the Turkey Leg 150. Prior to the race, track officials paid tribute to the late Zac Brunkala with a missing man formation, leaving the first starting position empty in the three wide lineup. Two cars failed to make it on track bringing the number of starters down to 51.
Once the race went green, the snow began to melt off the track surface, Bo Hayes (#95) and Kenny Bender, Jr (#89) charged through the field from their starting positions of 37th and 45th, respectively. Attrition began to take hold as several hard hits and car troubles took cars out of the race. The pace picked up as more snow melted and the track surface was wet. The wet track turned into a muddy track at the half-way point as dirt and debris littered the racing surface.
Several red flags during the early going slowed the race but the racing was intense lap after lap. Track crews worked hard to clear portions of the race track under red flags and the final stoppage came with 50 laps to go. Shortly after Hayes went to the pit area handing the lead over to Kenny Bender, Jr. It wasn’t all clear sailing for Bender, Jr. as he encountered several incidents and slower cars as he lapped the track. Bender held a lead of a lap over Jason Shaw to the finish and picked up the victory along with the $2,000 payout. Jason Shaw brought his #1 home second, Robert Brown was third with Matt Wiedlund finishing fourth and Jon Racic rounding out to top five.
The Painesville Speedway will be back in action in March for the Great American Enduro in March 2025. The Painesville Speedway remains committed to offering Fast & Affordable Family Fun! More information including schedules, gate times and ticket prices can be found at NEOhioRacing.com.
