Is Lake Erie Speedway Going Dirt in ’25?

An interesting Facebook post has led to speculation that the 3/8 mile Lake Erie Speedway in Northeast, Pennsylvania could be covered in dirt in 2025.

It looks like we will have to truck some more dirt next season. Oh well.

The Race of Champions (pavement Modifieds) is scheduled to compete at Lake Erie on April 12th and again September 12th-14th. The time between those events is certainly long enough to lay dirt and clean it up if Lake Erie Speedway wanted to get a little dirty during the summer of ’25.

What could race at Lake Erie if it went dirt?

The All Star Circuit of Champions and FAST on Dirt 410 Sprint Car Series could hit the dirt at Lake Erie Speedway along with various Dirt Late Model tours, Super DirtCar Modifieds and local racers.

What’s working against Dirt at Lake Erie?

Several nearby dirt tracks including Eriez Speedway, Raceway 7, Mercer Raceway Park, Sharon Speedway and Knox Speedway all race on various days during the weekend pulling drivers and fans to each of those tracks. While a few specials may work well, running on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday every week probably wouldn’t draw the cars or crowds.

With the 2025 Schedule coming out in a “few days” we won’t have to wait long to find out just what the plans are for Lake Erie Speedway. One thing remains true: it is one of the country’s nicest short tracks. On par with facilities at the now defunct Irwindale (CA) Speedway and Mansfield (OH) Motor Speedway, Lake Erie Speedway is one of the most modern facilities in America.
