There are certain short tracks in the Midwest that carry a distinct aura long before you ever step foot through the front gates. Anderson Speedway is undeniably one of them. Walking into the historic Indiana facility for the very first time, knowing the deep tradition and the legendary names that have turned laps there, was a genuinely surreal experience for us at Speedway Action Images.
You can watch all the footage in the world, but nothing quite prepares you for your first in-person look at those corners. The sheer steepness of the banking is completely shocking. It is a true high-banked bullring that dictates incredible speed and demands absolute precision from the drivers, setting the perfect stage for the kind of intense, tight-quarters racing that we live to cover.
Beyond the asphalt itself, what truly made our inaugural visit so memorable was the genuine hospitality. From the moment we arrived, everyone we encountered was incredibly welcoming. The track staff, the dedicated safety crew, and the local photographers made us feel right at home in the infield. A special mention has to go to track promoter Jared Owen, who proved to be an absolute class act in how professionally he runs his facility and treats the racers and motorsports media alike.
When it came time for the racing action, the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Series lived up to the hype and put on an absolutely spectacular show. Watching those cars tackle the steep Anderson corners is a sight to behold. When the checkered flag finally fell, it was Sawyer Stout who parked it in Victory Lane, earning a hard-fought and thrilling win. Meanwhile, the night held massive season-long implications, culminating in Danny Shirey officially being crowned the Series Champion for the second year in a row—a massive accomplishment in such a highly competitive division.
The Supermodifieds weren’t the only ones keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. The Modified 100-lap feature event was completely action-packed, delivering fantastic racing from start to finish. With a large field of cars navigating the tight confines of the quarter-mile, the long-distance grind showcased thrilling, side-by-side battles all over the track.
Having Anderson Speedway on our trackside bucket list for so long, finally getting to experience it through the lens was nothing short of incredible. The racing, the people, and the atmosphere delivered on every front. We are already looking forward to our next trip back to the high banks.
