CONFIDENCE LEADS TO SUCCESS FOR GALLOGLY AT THE ‘BOWL

Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series PR

DEGRAFF, OH (June 13) – Confidence in your equipment and team can play a key role in a successful night of racing, and Cody Gallogly (Baltimore, OH) emphasized that point with an impressive Shady Bowl Speedway victory Saturday night in Team Willis 350 Outlaw Supermodified Sprint Series (OSS) action.

After struggling the night before at Plymouth Motor Speedway, car owner Brian Neubauer and Gallogly had a chat with the crew to decide what steps need to be taken.  A lot of focus and attention centered around the wing mounting and air pressure prior to hot laps and when he pulled back into the pits, the smile was bright with knowledge that the problems had been corrected.

It took three starts to get the 40-lap Rogers Tire Service/Kirby’s Automotive event started on the uniquely designed Shady Bowl pavement, but the two initial ones only added to Gallogly’s confidence level.  “On the first two starts, I noticed how the front of the field was stacking up and actually slowing down on them, so starting 10th, I knew I had to do something radical.  When the green flag dropped, I just shot out to the 3rd groove and motored by them.”  By lap 3 he was third, as the ‘Bowl crowd watched in amazement at what they had just witnessed.

By that point Sam Stout (Bellevue, OH) was in total command of the field. He, too, had worked out the gremlins that plagued him the night before. But he was running too strong, and by the fifth lap he had exceeded his qualifying time by more than .3 of a second for three laps to bring out the caution flag and relegation to the rear of the field.

On the ensuing restart, the ‘choose cone’ found Gallogly and Joey Wyckoff (Amherst, OH) on the front row.  The drag race to the green found Gallogly in front and he never looked back; having built up a 3-second lead over the field, while the action behind him was heating up.

Among those making their moves were Dive Bar Rookie of the Year candidate Keegan Weese (Amherst, OH) and Hunter Young (Orient, OH) as they battled for third and fourth spots.  Defending champion Danny Shirey (N. Ridgeville, OH), who had spun on the opening lap for the second consecutive night of action, was battling through the field with precise patience and accuracy while the laps clicked away.

With a mere handful of laps remaining and Gallogly in full control, behind him and Wyckoff was a multi-car battle for spots involving Young, Weese, J.J. Henes (LaGrange, OH), Frank Neill (Vickery, OH) and Shirey, but it ended on lap 36 as Young’s car spun into a ball of flames and the red flag appeared.   He escaped injury.

With less than 5 laps remaining in the contest, it was a single-file restart and that was enough to power Gallogly to the victory over Wyckoff, Shirey, Weese and Stout who had charged back to the front after the earlier incident.  Sam’s brother, Sawyer (Norwalk, OH), experienced handling issues for most of the feature and retired from the action around the mid-point of the race, in a turnaround from the previous night’s dominance at Plymouth.
