McCoy and Morrison Capture Sandusky Opener Victories

This past Saturday May 10, Sandusky Speedway opened for the season with two new classes, the Ohio Pro Compacts and Warriors. Excellent racing action culminated in Bryant McCoy capturing the win in the 25 lap Pro Compact feature and James Morrison winning the 15 lap Warrior feature.

The night started with a number of blown engines in hot laps in the Ohio Pro Compact division, putting a slight damper on car count but not excitement. Bryant McCoy was the fast qualifier of the night in the Pro Compacts with a lap time of 20.323 seconds and Jeff Smith Jr was fast qualifier in the Warrior division with a lap time of 23.827. McCoy and Kyle Ramsey won the Pro Compact heat races while Smith and JD Hribar won their heats in the Warrior division.

The Warrior division feature was up first with JD Hribar and Hollie Myers leading the field to green. Jeff Smith Jr took the lead on lap 3 from the last starting position making quick work of the field with eventual winner James Morrison moving into the second position at the halfway point. Morrison got around Smith with five laps to go and went on to win over Smith, Hribar, Kyle Kyea, and Annaleigh Martin.

The Ohio Pro Compact division finished off the racing program with Sandusky’s own Kyle Ramsey and Laney Nejedly leading the field to the green flag of the twenty-five lap affair. Bryant McCoy and Hayden Nails made quick work of the field moving into the lead positions in just four laps from the back of the field. A lone caution at the halfway point and an overheating car did not deter McCoy as he went on to win over Zach Meyers, Melvin Martin, Shawn Honsaker, and Kyle Ramsey.

The Sandusky Speedway will be in action again this Saturday May 17th with Grand Nationals, Ohio Pro Compacts, Warriors and Factory Stocks in attendance.
