Sawyer Stout competed in the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series and the Must See Racing Midwest Lights Sprint Car Series in 2024. He recently made his first ISMA/MSS Supermodified start at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina. After finishing runner-up in the 2024 Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series Championship, Sawyer wants to make the big step to the top of the podium in 2025.
How did you get involved in racing?
I’m a fourth generation in it, my dad put me in a go kart at 4 years old and I’ve been with it ever since.
How long have you been racing? Why did you choose the number you race?
I’ve been racing since I was 4 years old, I’m now 20 going into my 16th year of racing. I chose 40 off of the young kid impulse, my brother was 47 and my dad had 49 so from what I remember I just blurted it out. Stuck ever since and I love it!
What’s your favorite race track you’ve raced on?
Plymouth Speedway, Indiana
What kind of hobbies outside of the racecar do you have?
Hanging out with the girlfriend, and my friends, nothing much else. Racecars take up a lot of my time.
Did you have any racing heroes growing up?
Trent Stephens and Dave Shullick Jr. were big standouts since they raced/race for my dad
What’s your favorite racing memory?
Either seeing my dad win The Hy-Miler Nationals with DJ (Shullick) or racing my dad’s big block supermodified in North Carolina this year.
Do you have any racers that you are close friends with?
JJ Henes, Kasey Jedrzejek, and Steven Berlin are my three best-friends, JJ races pavement sprint cars, Kasey races 410 dirt sprint cars, and Berlin races go-karts.
Do you have any raceday rituals or superstitions?
I have two pairs of lucky orange underwear
What is your greatest accomplishment in racing?
Winning multiple races in the Outlaw 350 all at different tracks, or 2022 ISMA Rookie of the Year
What are your plans for 2025?
Running the full OSS schedule with a couple ISMA shows
