Mother Nature Strikes Again: Owosso Speedway’s Open Wheel Invasion Postponed, Leaving Outlaw 350 Series 0-for-2

The roar of the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series will have to wait just a little longer to echo through central Michigan.

Owosso Speedway officials, in conjunction with the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series, have officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated May 2nd “Open Wheel Invasion.” The culprit? An unseasonably cold weekend forecast that threatened both track conditions and the fan experience.

Track officials made the call early in the week to save traveling teams the grueling haul to the Ovid oval, but the early notice does little to thaw the deep frustration for the winged warriors of the Outlaw 350 tour.

A Stuttering Start to 2026

With this cancellation, the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series finds itself stuck in the mud, going an unfortunate 0-for-2 on scheduled races to start the 2026 season.

Following the wash-out of their scheduled April 18th season opener at Toledo Speedway, drivers were chomping at the bit to finally drop the green flag at Owosso. The tour, which expanded its footprint significantly this year to include multiple stops across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and New York, has been heavily hyped throughout the off-season. Fans and teams alike have been eagerly awaiting the championship battle, specifically to see who can dethrone reigning heavyweights like Danny Shirey.

Instead, the cars remain in the haulers, and the wait continues.

The Financial and Emotional Toll

Starting a racing season 0-for-2 is more than just a scheduling headache; it’s a test of momentum and morale. Teams have spent the entire off-season building their budgets, thrashing in the shop, and turning wrenches late into the night. Missing the first two paydays of the year puts a strain on independent teams looking to fund their travels through the heavy summer grind.

However, track promoters are acutely aware of the realities of early spring racing in the Midwest. Racing high-horsepower, open-wheel machines on a cold, green track presents significant safety and mechanical hazards. While the decision is a bitter pill to swallow, the early cancellation prevents teams from burning through diesel fuel and travel budgets just to sit in a freezing pit area.

What’s Next?

Owosso Speedway has not yet announced an official makeup date for the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series, but fans are encouraged to hold onto their schedules as track officials work to find a slot for the Open Wheel Invasion later this summer. The speedway will look to resume its regular 2026 calendar on Wednesday, May 6th, with a scheduled Test and Tune, followed by the Bob Finley Memorial on Saturday, May 9th.

For the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series, all eyes now turn toward the Hoosier state. The tour will attempt to finally kick off its 2026 campaign at Plymouth Speedway in Indiana on Friday, May 22nd.

Until then, the wrenches will keep turning, the methanol will stay in the jugs, and drivers will be hoping that Mother Nature finally lets them race.
