Get to Know TJ Shaffer

TJ Shaffer, son of Lorain Raceway Park Modified and Grand National Champion Tigh Shaffer, has been collecting trophies and checkered flags across the country in Quarter Midgets, coming in several National NASCAR Youth Series events including races at Las Vegas, Kansas and Charlotte. We did the impossible, we caught up with TJ, something his competition has a hard time doing.

How did you get involved in racing?

My dad (Tigh Shaffer)

How long have you been racing?  Why did you choose the number you race?

4 years. I chose the number I race (#40) because it was my dad’s number.

What’s your favorite race track you’ve raced on?

Tulsa Shootout

What kind of hobbies outside of the racecar do you have?

Football, Wrestling, Playing video games and riding my dirt bike

Do you have a workout plan that you follow to keep yourself in top shape for race day?

Wrestling practices

Did you have any racing heroes growing up?

My dad, Grandpa (1998 Lorain Bomber Champion Paul Shaffer) and Joe Quinn

What’s your favorite racing memory?

Winning my first NASCAR youth series national race in Kansas!

What is your greatest accomplishment in racing?

Getting two top 5 finishes during the 2024 NASCAR youth series season.

Do you have any raceday rituals or superstitions?

Secret hand shakes before every race and a bacon egg sandwich for breakfast

What are your plans for 2025?

Win a national championship

Anyone you want to thank for getting you here?

My mom and dad, My grandparents, my family and friends that watch me every race and all of my sponsors.

What are your long-term goals in racing?

To race a dirt Sprint Car
